General

2nd Story is committed to offering a dynamic internship program for students and artists. We offer specialized three-month long internship tracks in Management and Artistic Programming.

Interns report to either the Managing or Artistic Director and are considered to be a vital part of the 2nd Story staff. Each intern will have a different experience based on his or her interests and goals.

Time Commitment

All interns are required to attend Friday Office Hours (10:00am – 3:00pm) each Friday of their internship. Beyond that commitment, the specific schedule of each intern varies depending on the nature of their internship and other activities taking place at the organization over the course of the internship.

2nd Story offers quarter, semester, and yearlong internship opportunities based on interest and availability. The length of the internship is determined by the intern and the staff supervisor.

Artistic Programs Intern

The Artistic Programs Intern works directly with the Artistic Director and Producer of Artistic Programs. 2nd Story produces over 40 events every season. Artistic Programs Interns have the unique opportunity to shadow the story development process, in addition to gaining firsthand producing experience.

Management Intern

The Management Intern works directly with the Managing Director and Marketing Manager. Management Interns gain invaluable experience in the areas of fundraising, special events, marketing, and general arts administration. Management Interns gain critical experience in fundraising and special events as 2nd Story produces several special events each season with goals between $500 and $25,000.

2nd Story’s internship program was pivotal in my development and education as an Arts Administrator. The internship program does more than give a person hands on experience in a non profit (which it does of course), it allowed me to put concrete experience on my resume. The ever positive staff gave me freedom and ownership over projects, which allowed me to identify things that could work better there and partner it with my own interests and goals
— Liz Gottmann, Former 2nd Story Intern

Even at the internship level, you really feel like you’re contributing something significant to the organization, which leaves you with a great sense of accomplishment. For me, the best thing about it was the level of ownership I was given over my projects. I walked away having stronger time management skills, a better understanding of the art or storytelling, and, most importantly, a more defined idea of what it was I wanted to focus on going forward in my profession.
— Cameron Pentimone, Former 2nd Story Intern
