2nd Story’s Studio (3001 W Lawrence Ave, Chicago, IL 60625)
As you’re planning your trip, please consider the following:
Drop off points
There is not parking associated with the office space, and therefore no accessible parking spots. Free street parking is sometimes available along the residential streets, and paid parking is available along Lawrence Ave.
The first access point is northwest of the front door, and is used by the 81 public bus. The bus access point can be used by vehicles dropping off individuals when not occupied by the bus. This area is not reserved - it is a lane of street traffic
Another access point is on the southwest of the front door along Sacramento Avenue. A vehicle can pull out of traffic to the left-hand side to drop off an individual. Sacramento Avenue is a north-bound one-way street.
The area outside the front door is concrete sidewalk and may not be slip-resistant in inclement weather.
Public transportation
The 81 bus stops directly outside the studio on the southwest (eastbound) and northwest (westbound) corners of Sacramento and Lawrence.
The brown line has an accessible stop (Francisco) approximately two blocks south of the location. An accessible train entrance is available on the east side of the train platform at the primary entrance. From there, individuals can travel diagonally up N. Manor Ave and turn left on Lawrence Ave. The entrance requires crossing Sacramento Ave, and both sidewalk curbs are sloped.
There is another train exit on the west side of the station that opens directly onto Sacramento Ave. From there an individual may proceed directly to the corner of Lawrence Ave. This train exit, however, has five steps required to descend the platform onto street level. This entrance also requires crossing the train tracks, which could be difficult or impossible for folks using certain mobility devices.
The sidewalk corner of Sacramento and Lawrence has a short (approximately 2 feet) slope from the sidewalk to the door. There is no hand railing.
Entrance
The entrance to 2nd Story’s office is on the southwest corner of Sacramento Ave and Lawrence Ave. There is a short (approximately 2 feet) gentle slope from the sidewalk to the door. There is no hand railing.
The door hand is an offset single door pull. There is no automatic door opener.
Inside the space
The work tables are accessible for a wheelchair user with a 27” knee clearance under the tables. The table has approximately 4 spaces that are easily rolled into.
It’s worth noting that the space is intended to be flexible and change configurations easily.
There is one single-user bathroom. There is a 1” difference between the hallway floor and the bathroom floor.
The bathroom has two grab bars - one horizontal on the wall parallel to the toilet and one vertical along the wall behind the toilet.
2nd Story is also equipped with a full kitchen - stove, oven, microwave, coffee maker, sink, etc.
The Davis Theater (4614 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60625)
As you’re planning your trip, please consider the following:
There is street parking around The Davis Theater. There is no designated parking lot.
There is a loading zone in front of the main theater doors with a curb.
For those who take public transit, The Davis is a short walk south of the Western brown line stop. The 81 bus also stops nearby at Lawrence & Western.
The main entrance has three sets of double-door entrances with c-shaped pull door handles. The set of doors furthest to the left has an automatic door opener.
Once inside, the floor slopes upwards very gradually as you move towards the theater entrance.
We recommend looking at the walk-through available through Google Maps for a better sense of the lobby space. The walk-through also goes into Theater 2 where our performance will take place.
The theater itself has a long sloping hallway down to the entrance. There are railings on both sides of the hallway.
The seats inside the theater are plush movie theater seats. Accessible seating, including at least 6 spaces for wheelchair-users, is available. The floorplan is available here. Please email info@2ndstory.com as soon as you purchase your tickets if you would like to reserve accessible seats.
There are multi-user, gender specific restrooms in the lobby and one single-user, gender non-specific restroom.
There are two water fountains in the lobby, including one less than 36” tall. Both water fountains jut out directly from the wall which means there are no knee or toe barriers.
This event will be available virtually through a live-streamed Zoom performance, and through our View Later option. The virtual performance will use Zoom’s automatic transcription feature.
