“One of my main goals as a classroom teacher is to foster empathy, and I want my students to think about each other’s words and actions in relation to one another’s contexts and life experiences. There is no better way to do this than through storytelling with 2nd Story.”
— Elizabeth Ferrell, Roosevelt High School Freshmen English Teacher

In-School Residency Program

2nd Story is proud to offer in-school, multi-week residencies at Volta Elementary School and Roosevelt High School.

At Volta Elementary School we execute a bilingual, 6-week, 12-session residency program for 90 kindergarten and 90 first grade students in three classrooms two times/year. We developed a program that puts us in the classroom twice per school year in order to serve the developmental needs and growth of that age group, as well as create more consistency for the students. At Roosevelt High School we execute a 6-week residency program for 70 high school freshmen students in two classrooms during the fall semester.

Study Guides

Each season, we create dynamic study guides and lesson plans to accompany our socially relevant stories. These free resources can be downloaded and used in classrooms across the city.
